We’re proud of our instructors.
There are many NRA-certified firearm trainers in Illinois, including thousands of new ones since Illinois got concealed carry in 2013. One thing is a given though: You can be assured that if someone is wearing a GSL Defense Training INSTRUCTOR shirt, they are truly one of the best in Illinois. How good? Our weakest instructor is as good or better than most schools’ best.
Don’t take our word for it.
Here is what a 43-year-old female wrote in a November 2013 course evaluation:
All the trainers are top-notch, professional, extremely overqualified and patient. Every student is treated in the same respectful manner, regardless of ability. You leave feeling like you can defend yourself under any situation. GSL Defense Training goes out of their way to accommodate, encourage, teach and when the time calls, to entertain. I always learn something new and memorable.
We’re not former Special Forces “operators”. We’re not SWAT cops – well, except for one back when he had hair and muscles. Most of us didn’t even stay at Holiday Inn Express last night. We are, however, experts at teaching regular people (like you) personal protection and the art of the self-defense handgun. We’ll teach you a review of basic firearm safety, how to avoid becoming the victim of violent crime, and should it happen anyway, how to defend and protect yourself, your family and innocent life with your personal protection firearm.
We have seen first-hand that “military” and “police” listed in someone’s credentials means very little when it comes to what concealed carry licensees need to be taught. Your class with us isn’t boot camp or police academy. What matters is instructors’ ability to communicate with everyday people, teaching and empowering them with the skill sets they need to avoid becoming a statistic.
We are experienced. Unlike the great majority of new instructors in Illinois, most of our instructors have been doing this for years, not months. We have roughly 300 years’ of experience teaching among our trainers, something you’re not going to find at JohnnyComeLatelyTacticalTraining.com. We’ve been to nationally-known, top-tier shooting schools and learned from the best – and we’re bringing all that back to share with you.
More importantly, we make it very enjoyable for all. We use charismatic, highly-trained experts to teach you how to *fight* with your pistol. Our legal lectures? They’re taught by our GSL Defense Training instructor-lawyers & cops, not someone reading legal statutes and definitions from power point slides.
We now have nearly twenty experienced instructors, male and female, from diverse backgrounds who are all quite patient, skilled and knowledgeable to help you improve your ability to safely use your handgun effectively and efficiently.
You’ll feel a good deal more secure, comfortable and confident handling a firearm after taking GSL Defense Training coursework. If you’re an experienced shooter – and some of our students could teach the class – you’ve leave shooting better and faster.
Train with the people you know and trust. Train with GSL Defense Training. You’ll be glad you did.

And our Staff:
Good support staff are priceless members of our team and we’ll tell you why: good support staff helps to make our courses so much better for students and instructors alike.
They welcome newcomers and help out with greeting students with the registration materials and other things they will need for a successful time class.
They help in a wide array of non-firearm training aspects of classes and do their absolute best to make sure everyone has an enjoyable time.
They help put nervous students at ease, assuring them that everything is going to be alright and that they will have a good time. Our staff also helps making sure the classroom and support spaces stay neat and tidy – oh, and did we mention they help make sure lunch goes off without a hitch? Oh yeah.
The real reason we have them? They allow our instructors on concentrate on the teaching the art of personal protection and the self-defense handgun, knowing that all of our students’ needs off the range are well-met by our pleasant, helpful staff.
It’s the little things like dedicated support “staff” that help set GSL Defense Training apart from the thousand other “schools” that have sprouted up like springtime mushrooms across Illinois in the past few months.
